Ashwagandha or “Indian ginseng” (Withania somnifera) is known as a very gentle adaptogen. It has been used in so many conditions to help improve and bring back balance. It’s a superb herb to use for anxiety, insomnia, female reproductive issues, depression and even asthma and bronchitis.
In Ayurveda, it’s classified as a rasayana, which is a class of herbs that promote physical and mental health, increases the body’s resistance to illness and disease and increases longevity. (and who doesn’t want that??)
One important note: it takes time for adaptogens to do their work, so taking it for one day isn’t going to miraculously turn everything around. But with consistent, daily intake, you will begin to see improvements.
It happens so slowly, one day you notice you feel better.
I enjoyed a very tasty cup of warm milk with a tablespoon of ashwagandha, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a little maple syrup this morning. Why not give it a try?
