The color red represents so many things: power, fire, passion, blood, lust, energy, war… it’s certainly attention grabbing (and healthy!)
Red fruits and veggies are full of antioxidants that have been shown to help fight cancer and heart disease, increase the health of your immune system and growth of hair, nails and promote healthy skin.
A few foods that sit in red camp:
- apples
- beets
- cranberries
- cherries
- red bell peppers
- cayenne, habanero, serranos
- tomatoes
- watermelon
- strawberries
- raspberries
- pomegranates
Some phytochemicals found in red food:
Anthocyanin: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
Lycopene: antioxidant and anti-cancer properties (you can find this the highest in cooked tomatoes)
Potassium: heart healthy, key for balanced blood pressure and water balance
Vitamins A & C: important for health of skin, hair and nails, as well as immune system
So the next time you’re in the produce section of your favorite store, don’t forget to grab some RED produce along with the other colors too (we’ll talk more about those later) ??
