Holistic herbal medicine focuses on restoring balance to the body and treating the underlying pattern of disharmony that is giving rise to a particular symptom, condition, or disease. Herbal formulas can be prepared in the form of teas, powders, pills, tinctures, or syrups.
I use herbs in four primary ways:
- To reduce symptoms & shorten the duration of acute injury or illness.
- Assist the body in healing chronic illnesses, such as gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory diseases
- Help maintain optimal health by keeping the body balanced primarily using gentle herbs and adaptogens
- Improve the stress response and the subsequent effects
Any use of herbal remedies, apart from acute illness/injury, is intended to accompany a holistic health plan that includes lifestyle suggestions, dietary guidelines, and other supplements as needed. Herbs are never used in isolation, as a treatment for disease, or to mask the symptoms of any disease. Herbs act as harmonious allies to gently support the body’s own efforts toward achieving balance & vitality.
What are the side effects of herbal medicine?
Compared to pharmaceutical medicine, herbal medicine is more gentle and safe because it is natural and whole. Most herbs do not cause side effects, if you show a sensitivity to a particular herb there are many other herbs to choose from. We can easily adjust as needed.
Herbs typically include:
- roots
- bark
- flowers
- seeds
- fruits
- leaves
- branches
