I know, it’s winter and you may not be that into drinking cold things at the moment, but one of the easiest (and tastiest!) ways to get fruits, vegetables and herbs into your body is through drinking a smoothie!
You could always go to the freezer section of most grocery stores and find smoothie blends, buy why not make your own combinations at home? This is a great way to get your kids involved and more willing to drink these delicious power houses (even if they are green)!
Even better, you can make all of these combinations ahead of time, and freeze them in individual baggies for convenient use whenever the mood for a smoothie strikes! Here are a few recipes to get your creative juices flowing:
Keep it Green
- 1 banana
- 1-1/2 c spinach
- 1-2 T nut butter
- 1 T powdered, dried nettle leaf or 1/2 c fresh nettle leaves
Heart Love
- 1 c kale
- 1 c spinach
- 1 c strawberries
- 1 c blueberries
- 2 tsp powdered hawthorn berry
- 1/2 banana
- 2 T flaxseed
Chocolate Banana Dream
- 1 banana
- 1 T cocoa powder
- 1 T maca
- 1/2 T chia seeds
- Honey as needed
Chocolate Avocado Addiction
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 banana
- 1 T cocoa powder
- 2 tsp powdered ashwagandha
- honey as needed
Cuppa Creamy Cappuccino
- 1-2 T cocoa powder
- 2 tsp powdered ashwagandha or maca
- 3 cubes herbal coffee blend, frozen
- Honey as needed
Chocolate Heat
- 1 banana
- 1 T cocoa powder
- Scant 1/4 tsp powdered cayenne
- 1/4 tsp powdered ginger
- 1/2 tsp powdered cinnamon
Preparation
Dump ingredients from frozen bag into a blender, add milk (dairy, almond, coconut, etc.) and ice if needed, until your desired consistency is reached. Most of the recipes will need about 1 to 1-1/2 cups of milk.
Label the Bags!
Make sure to label your bags with the ingredients and date. You’ll want to use these bags within 2-3 weeks of putting them in the freezer, unless you’re using a vacuum sealer.
